Golyazi, is one of the most rich ancient settlements in Nilufer district. According to the written sources; the ancient name of Golyazi was "Appollonia ad Rhyndacum". Some informations about the region where there has been no real arcaelogical excavations made till today, have been gathered by the examination of the coins found here. �n the region, together with Appollonia and Rhyndacum coins dated to the 1st century BC, plenty of Byzantine imperial coins have been found. Both in the town and on the Alyos and Manastir islands on the Lake Uluabat, there are some ruins from the Byzantine period.
Together with a structure which is colloquially known as "Deliktas" and predicted to be an aqueduct and ancient castle ruins in the region are; the ruins Apollon Temple in K�z Island, the ruins of an ancient theatre, the ruins of citywalls around the peninsula, the St. Pantheleiman Church constructed by yhe Greek minority who lived there in the 19th century and the ruins of the Hagios Konstantinos Monastery Church in Manastir Island. Being one of the most important samples of the Greek classical architecture, St.Pantheleiman Church is being renovated by the Municipality of Nilufer. In the region which has been taken under protection by being proclaimed as SIT are, there are other worthseeing historical and natural beauties such as a historical mosque and a hammam of which the date of construction is unknown an the plane tree known as the " The Criyng Plane Tree" ( in Turkish Aglayan Cinar ) which is located in the head of bridge which connects the town the peninsula. The plane tree which is 753 years old as of 2010 and which is known as "The Criyng Plane Tree" for iys juice sap flowing through its body, bears the internatinoal big tree sign.
Golyazi, which was formerly a Greek village and where the emigrants from Thessaloniki by the population exchange dwell, is a region has significant features in terms of the common history of the Turks and the Greeks.Read more »
